September 20, 2009 PUBLIC INFORMATIONAL MEETING: Jim Middleton, COCC President, will be speaking at a public informational meeting about COCC’s upcoming bond measure and their pursuit of a “COCC Special Planned District” overlay zone for some of COCC’s property which is being rezoned from Residential Urban Standard Density to Public Facilities. COCC has a $41.58 million bond measure on the November ballot. It is similar to the one that failed last fall. The funds would go toward the construction of a health and science building in Bend, a technology education center in Redmond and education campus facilities in Madras and Prineville as well as new labs, clinics and other facilities for health career programs, and renovation of other campus facilities. The new “Campus Village area” which runs up from the intersection of Mt. Washington Drive and Shevlin Park Road, is intended to allow a variety of institutional, residential and commercial uses. These uses will primarily serve the campus, but will also provide services for the surrounding neighborhoods and the community at large. This new area would be separate from the “Core Campus” area which contains the existing campus buildings and would continue to be the focus of the continued growth and expansion of educational uses. On Thursday, October 1, 2009, the League of Women Voters of Deschutes County will be sponsoring this “First Thursday Luncheon” from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the new King’s Buffet, 2050 N.E. Third Street in the Wagner Mall. There is no cost to hear the speaker; however the cost of the buffet is $7.99. The speaker will begin at noon and allow time for questions from the audience. No reservations are needed.
