March-April 2008 Dear League Members,
Can you believe that the League is 88 years old now? We grew out of the national women’s suffrage association. After fighting actively for 75 years, it became clear that women would finally get the right to vote in 1920, so the League was created to help women and men to become informed voters. And that mission continues to this day. We work to help our members and the public to be more knowledgeable about candidates and issues that affect us all. I hope each of you tries to do your part to further the work of the League. The national convention is in Portland, Oregon this year from June 13 to 17. If any one wishes to go and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity please let me know right away. Conventions are great for learning, sharing, inspiration and fun. Any member may attend. It is going to be at the Hilton (downtown). We may be able to pay for some of the expenses, depending on how many members wish to go. And June is the best time to see the beautiful Rose Gardens in Portland.
