Oregon Gubernatorial Debate

Mark your calendars for May 1, 7-8 pm and May 2, 6:30-8, to watch two live televised gubernatorial primary debates sponsored by KATU 2, AARP/Oregon and the League!  KATU and its affiliates will air the debates across most of the state, so your members should be able to watch them.
 
In January, KATU 2 in Portland, an ABC affiliate, asked the League and AARP/Oregon if they would be interested in jointly sponsoring live, televised gubernatorial primary debates for both the Democrats and the Republicans.  After discussions and meetings, the League is pleased to announce that these debates will be broadcast on May 1 for the Democrats and May 2 for the Republicans.
 
KATU’s news anchors, Deborah Knapp and Steve Dunn will moderate.
 
The League and AARP/Oregon have developed the questions and used many of the candidate questions submitted by League members for the Voters’ Guide.   All the candidates will be present for the debates – 3 Democrats and 9 Republicans.  Debates/forums empower citizens to understand governmental issues and to participate in the political process – LWVOREF’s mission. 
 
Encourage your members to mark their calendars and to watch these unique debates – with all the candidates committed to participate!
 
We will post information on these debates on our state website and send you some publicity to post on your local League website early next week.  Since we are working closely with other organizations, we need to coordinate publicity and that is coming soon.
